Freja Beha Erichsen, also called Freja Beha, is an established model of Danish origin. Born on 18th October in 1987 in Roskilde near Copenhagen to lawyer parents, she spent her childhood in her hometown, climbing trees and riding mountain bikes. Having reached a height of 5' 9” when she was only 12 years old, she was spotted on the roads by a professional modeling agent and immediately signed by the International Management Group (IMG).
She debuted in 2005 at the Prada and Louis Vuitton fall shows in Milan and Paris. She also opened the fall Miu Miu show. Even before her debut, she was featured in the cover of French Vogue. Since then, she has steadily grown and walks regularly for Prada, Louis Vuitton and other famous fashion brands. In 2007, she replaced Daria Werbowy as the face of Chanel and signed fragrance contracts with Calvin Klein's IN2U and Gucci by Gucci. She was photographed for Gucci by Craig McDean. This catapulted her to the position of an established model. She continues to grace the runways of Paris, New York, London and Milan for the Ready to Wear and Haute Couture seasons. She has walked for brands like Chanel, Christian Dior, Burberry, Prada, Alexander Wang, Zac Posen, Lanvin, Sonia Rykiel, Versace, Balmain, Balenciaga and Shiatzy Chen among others.
She has also appeared in several editorials for fashion magazines, including the Italian, French, American, Australian, German, British, Chinese, Korean, Russian and Japanese editions of Vogue magazine. She has also appeared in Interview magazine, W magazine, Harper’s Bazaar in Russia and America, Numero, i-D and Purple magazine. She has graced the covers of Vogue UK, France and Italy. She has also been on the cover of Purple magazine. She featured in the 2011 Pirelli calendar and was photographed by the famous photographer Karl Lagerfeld. She signed on to become the face of IN2U, a celebrated Calvin Klein fragrance that is recognized across the globe. In 2011, she also signed on to become the face of Valentino’s fragrance, Valentina.
Freja has appeared in ads for Gucci, Chanel, Hugo Boss, Armani, Jil Sander, Isabel Marant, Pollini, Chloe, GAP, Hermes, Calvin Klein, Chanel Eye-wear, Louis Vuitton, Moncler, Max Mara, Roberto Cavalli to name a few and has accessories named after her. French Vogue listed her in the top 30 models of 2000s. Freja has natural talent without any formal ramp training, which may explain her unique ramp walk style. She is known for her androgynous look and her tattoos. She is considered an activist and has appeared nude for Purple magazine to challenge the stereotyped female look. She has teamed with MOTHER denim to raise funds for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Freja even has a number of style items produced by designers named after her. Jill Stuart created the Freja handbag, while Chloe created the Freja clutch. Alexander Wang created the Freja lace-up stiletto boot. At the peak of her career, she ranked as high as number two on the Top 50 Models Women’s List.
