Esther De Jong’s modeling career almost didn't happen. That is to say It was by a series of random events that she was discovered and become one of Hollands biggest super models. When a model failed to show up to a shoot with photographer Anette Aurell Esther was called up to take her place in the shoot. The show must go on mentality got her into the shoot after which the husband of photographer Anette Aurell saw the photographs that his wife had taken. Impressed by the photos he decided to bring the photos of the young girl to his friend and model Marilyn Gauthier who was also the director of the well known Marilyn Agency they then offered De Jong a contract. Her very climatic rise started with her first photo shoot, The cover of Italian Vogue in 1996. This was immediately followed by a very exclusive runway show in Milan for Jill Sander. After that start her career was off to the races. Soon after she started walking for some of the most important names in fashion such as Christian Lacroix, DKNY, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Iceberg, John Galliano, Karl Lagerfeld, Marc Jacobs, Max Mara, Missoni, Miu Miu, Prada, Sonia Rykiel, Sportmax and Vivienne Westwood , Versace, Alexander McQueen, Alberta Ferretti, Anna Sui, Calvin Klein, Cerruti, Chanel, Chloé, Christian Dior, Givenchy, Ann Demeulemeester. To add to that she always was picked up by some of the biggest names in fashion for their ad campaigns, different designers, brands and companies such as Clinique Happy, DKNY, Gianfranco Ferre, Guerlain , Hermes , Nicole Farhi, Prada, Cavalli, Rochas, Saks Fifth Avenue and Sonia Rykiel, Dior, Chanel Cruise, Adrienne Vittadini, Alberta Ferretti, Bazar de Christian Lacroix , Bloomingdale's, Celine, Cerruti 1881, Chanel, Christian Dior lunetes. Through her experience in the industry she was also brought to work with many great photographers. Notably Nick Knight and often with Steven Meisel who was the first person to shoot her for her cover of Italian Vogue in 1996. They would have a lasting relationship through out her years in fashion. Esther gave birth to a son in 2003 named Oscar. Since Oscars birth she has taken time to be a mother and put her modeling career on the back burner. After the 2004 Tsunami killed her close friend and agent Sam and her child she started a charity foundation called the Home & Life Orphanage Foundation. Esther is also a very large supporter of a charity called the OAfrica organization. Which lends a helping hand with african orphans. She spends most of her time now at her farm in upstate New York breeding thoroughbred horse’s and raising her son. Recently she has come out of her retirement of sorts working the 125 year anniversary of Lanvin in 2013 as well as working for Prada that year. She has also worked as an actress and more notably a writer. She writes poetry and has been credited on a television short called “If i Cant Have You”. She is currently represented by Wilhelmina in New York, IMG in Paris and Paparazzi Model Management in Amsterdam.
