Astrid Munoz is a model and photographer. She works with IMG Models today as a photographer rather than model. Her early years were spent with two siblings in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Her mother was an executive secretary and her father a nuclear engineer. According to details Munoz has shared her parents were strict ensuring she received her proper education. Even as a teenager she enjoyed the beach and fashion magazines. While in her home town she was scouted to be a model in Spain; however, her mother thought that at 14 she was too young.
Five years after the first offer, Munoz was again offered the option of becoming a fashion model. An agent suggested that she go to France. Not wishing her parents to refuse the offer she decided to head to Paris. She is credited with being one of the first Latinas to become a highly successful model.
Munoz worked in Europe for several years, but decided to transfer to New York City where she gained even more fame. Astrid Munoz has often been in catalogs, editorials and in the press for her modeling work. She is signed with IMG Paris. She is noted for her work in publications like InStyle UK, Vogue France and Spain. While modeling she has worked for Mango, the brand.
Astrid Munoz continues to do some modeling work, but she is also as well known behind the camera as in front of it. In 1998 she decided to take a course in photojournalism at ICP Institute. She started taking photos as a hobby recording her travels such as to Massai Mara and Pampas in Argentina. She was very interested in customs and folklore taking images that eventually went on display in 2012. She traveled to Peru and Mexico to document the culture of native people and her work was displayed in 2013 for that trip. She has had many exhibits since and also works in fashion photography.
Some of her images have been featured in GQ, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Maire Claire, and Tatler.
Astrid is truly a busy and accomplished woman with her photography and modeling.
