Joy Bryant

Joy Bryant is an American model and actress. She was born in the Bronx, New York in 1976. She is best known for her role in NBC’s hit show, ‘Parenthood’.

Career

Bryant’s acting and modeling careers were simultaneous, although she started modeling first. Her acting debut came in 2001 with ‘Carmen: A Hip Hopera’. In 2002, Elle featured Bryant as a ‘rising star’, photographed by Gilles Bensimon.

Bryant had a busy year in 2003, as she appeared as the female lead love interest in Antwone Fisher, directed by Denzel Washington, as well as appearing in an InStyle editorial, appears in a GAP ad campaign and co-stars with Jessica Alba in ‘Honey’. In 2004 and 2005 she appeared in ‘The Skeleton Key’ with Kate Hudson, and ‘Get Rich or Die Tryin’ as 50 Cent’s love interest.

Bryant was photographed by Bruce Weber for Ralph Lauren in 2006. That same year she appeared on the cover of Teen Vogue, modeled for the Victoria Secret catalog, appeared in a Nylon editorial, signed with CoverGirl, was featured in Teen Vogue, and appeared in the ensemble film ‘Bobby’.

In early 2007 she was featured by British Elle, as well as Allure for her red carpet style. Bryant also appeared in the Polo Ralph Lauren spring ad campaign, and appeared in an InStyle editorial.

From 2010 to 2015 she appeared in NBC’s hit television series ‘Parenthood’.

Bryant is also an entrepreneur. Together with her husband, the stuntman David Pope, Bryant started a clothing company called Basic Terrain. One of the first pieces produced, and still a signature item is the ‘Eden Pant’, styled after Thai fishermen pants. Bryant and her husband draw their inspiration from their love of travel, the outdoors and adventure, as well as laid-back living.
