Josephine Skriver
Josephine Skriver is a Danish model, and was born in Copenhagen on April 14, 1993.
Career
Skriver was approached about her modeling prospect on a trip to New York City as a teenager in 2008. On her return to Denmark she signed with the modeling agency, Unique Copenhagen, and began to model locally in Copenhagen and Denmark.
In 2010 Skriver signed with Marilyn Agency, and she debuted in 2011 at the fall shows for Ruffian, Calvin Klein, Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti, Rag & Bone, and 3.1 Philip Lim in New York City. Her breakthrough came that same season as when she closed the fall Prada show and then opened fall Alberta Ferretti show in Milan. She continued to walk the fall shows for Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, and Balenciaga shows in Milan and Paris. In May 2011 she appeared in an editorial in German Vogue, photographed by Greg Kadel, and two months later appeared in an editorial in Italian Vogue, photographed by Steven Meisel. In September 2011 she opened the spring Adam, Jaeger, and House of Holland shows in New York and London, and closed for Ports 1961 and House of Holland. To close off a stellar international year she appeared in another German Vogue editorial, photographed by Claudia Knoepfler and Stefan Indlekofer, as well as an editorial in Dazed & Confused, photographed by Rankin.
She appeared in a number of editorials in 2012, including ones in Russian Vogue, Chinese Vogue, Vogue, and Wonderland.
In 2013 Skriver debuted at the Victoria’s Secret fashion show.
LGBT Advocacy
Skriver was born, through in vitro fertilization (IVF), to a lesbian mother and fathered by a gay man. She grew up with two sets of gay parents.
In 2013 Skriver spoke openly about her upbringing, and voiced her support of LGBT families.
Skriver made waves in early 2015 in response to a statement from Dolce & Gabbana that called the children of gay couples “synthetic children”. In March 2015 Skriver responded to D & G’s comment by publishing an article entitled, “Fully Human”.
