Jac

Jac, or Monika Jagciak, is a professional fashion model. She was born in Poland on January 15, 1994. She signed with IMG Models in 2007 and has since been referred to as Jac by those in the industry and at the agency.

Jac was found in 2007 at a open casting hosted by GAGA Models Agency at a Polish shopping center. Her sister encouraged her. Although she did not sign with GAGA Models Agency, she was signed by IMG.

Jagaciak was born in Poznań, Wielkopolska, in Poland. Her dad coaches athletics in Wielkopolska, and her sister, Anna Jagaciak, regularly competes in both long jump and triple jump.

Jac's first appearance was on the cover of French Jalouse in July of 2007. Later that year she received her big break when she was chosen to represent Hermes in its 2007, Fall/Winter campaign. She beat out more than 600 applying candidates to work with Daria Werbowy. The spread was shot by Peter Lindbergh.

Jac later stated that prior to the shoot she had never heard of Hermes or Peter Lindbergh. She also acknowledged that this probably helped her nerves. Jac received both critical acclaim and criticism for the spread, given her young age.

This didn't stop her modeling career from evolving. She began to travel abroad for jobs and in 2008 she traveled to Japan and was featured on the cover of Elle.

She appeared on her second cover of French Jalouse in May 2008. Also in 2008, she was featured on covers for Japanese Harper's Bazaar (October 2008), and Japanese Spur.

Jac suffered a mild setback due to age when she was scheduled to appear on the cover of Australian Vogue, however the editor decided that she was too young, and she had to sit out the shoot, due to Australian age regulations.

Age related setbacks continued in Australia as the fashion industry deemed Jac of an inappropriate age to be walking in fashion week. Many critics spoke of the sexualization of young models in the industry and used Jac as a prime example. Because of this, the organizers of Australian Fashion Week implemented a new rule banning anyone under 16 from walking in any of the shows.

Jac waited two years until she was 15, before making a comeback in the Fall 2009 shows. She debuted at New York Fashion Week walking for Donna Karan and opening and closing for the Calvin Klein Collection. She became best known that season for a powerful runway walk.Even after falling while walking the runway for Hervé Léger, she still closed shows for Marni, Shiatzy Chen and Marc Jacobs.

She did not meet the age requirement in Paris, but did in Milan where she walked for Versace, Fendi, Prada and Dolce & Gabanna.

In May 2009, Jac was named one of the “Top Ten Models to Watch” by New York Magazine. She has been spoken of highly by many designers in the media including Francisco Costa who said, “She possesses a timeless beauty that gives her the ability to be highly versatile, making her one of the most promising new models today.”

For the 2010 Fall/Winter season, Jac posted for campaigns including Chanel Beauty, Marc Jacobs, Valentino and Alberta Ferretti. The same season her contract with Calvin Klein ended and she was replaced by Dutch born Lara Stone.

Jac is very social and is frequently seen out with fellow models including Karlie Kloss, Lindsey Wixon, Lyndsey Scott, Yulia Leontieva, Frida Gustavsson, Sigrid Agren, Nimue Smit, Caroline Brasch Nielsen, Imogen Morris Clarke, Sophie Srej, and Anna Gushina.
