Iekeliene Strange

Iekeliene Strange is a Dutch fashion model born in 1984. She currently resides in the Netherlands, between Amesterdam and the Veluwe.

Career

Strange was attending the Graphic Lyceum in Rotterdam, when she was scouted by a model talent agency in 2004.

She debuted on the fall runway for Veronique Branquinho in Paris. In 2005 Steven Meisel requests to photograph Strange for Italian Vogue.

In 2006 Strange appeared in a French Vogue editorial, was featured in V, and appeared in a Philosophy di Alberta Feretti ad campaign. In September of that year she opened the spring Marc Jacobs show in New York, and followed that by opening the spring John Galliano show in Paris in October.

In 2007 Strange became the face of Sonia Rykiel, and was photographed by Jurgen Teller for Marc by Marc Jacobs. In March she appeared in an Italian Vogue editorial, photographed by Steven Meisel, and in August she appeared in a British Vogue editorial photographed by Tim Walker. She closed the spring L.A.M.B. show in New York, and opened the spring Moschino show in Milan, both in September. She closed the year by appearing in an Italian Vogue editorial wearing couture, photographed by Steven Klein, as well as in a Dazed & Confused editorial.

In 2008 she renewed her contract with Sonia Rykiel, and became the face of Burberry Black Label. In January she walked the spring Christian Dior an Chanel couture shows in Paris, and in February she opened the fall Tracy Reese, Roksanda Ilincic, DSquared2, and Bruna Pieters shows in New York, London, Milan, and Paris, as well as closing the fall Derercuny show in Milan. In March she graced the cover of Koren W, photographed by David Byun, and appeared in an Italian Flair editorial. In April of the same year she was featured on the cover of Japanese Dazed & Confused, and appeared in an Italian Vogue editorial, photographed by Michelangelo di Battista. Strange also appeared in the spring issue of DANSK, photographed by Chris Craymer. In the latter half of 2008 she appeared in editorials in Japanese Numero, Italian Vogue and Japanese Vogue, was featured on the cover of Korean Vogue, photographed by Oh Joong Seok, opened the spring Leia Rose, Vivienne Tam, and Bruno Pieters shows in New York and Paris, and closed the spring Malandrino and Vivienne Tam shows in New York.

Strange found herself busy again in 2009 when she started the year by opening the fall Charlotte Ronson, Custo Barcelona, and Nicole Miller shows in New York, and closing the fall Moschino Cheap & Chic show in Milan. In July, she walked the fall Chanel and Christian Dior shows in Paris, and shortly after, in September she walked the spring Jason Wu, Burberry, Giogio Armani, Gucci, Chanel, and John Galliano shows in New York, London, Milan, and Paris. In October she appeared in editorials in Italian Elle, Chinese Vogue, and Dazed & Confused, and the following month she appeared in editorials in Spanish Vogue and Italian Flair.

Strange skipped the fall ready-to-wear fashion week, but walked the Christian Dior couture show in Paris in July 2010. In August Strange was featured on the cover of COVER.

In January 2011, Strange walked the spring Christian Dior couture show in Paris. She appeared in a British Elle editorial, photographed by Matthias Vriens-McGrath, in March and in August she appeared in a Russian Vogue editorial, photographed by Giulia Noni. She opened the spring Hermes show in Paris in September, and finished the year by appearing in a British Vogue editorial, photographed by Benjamin Lennox.

On the runway Strange has walked for Veronique Branquinho, Marc Jacobs, John Galliano, Moschino, Christian Dior, Chanel couture, Vivienne Tam, Charlotte Ronson, Custo Barcelona, Nicole Miller, Burberry, Giorgio Armani and Gucci, among others.

Apart from her runway work Strange has also appeared on the cover of Koren W, Dazed & Confused (Japanese), Korean Vogue and COVER. She has also appeared prolifically in editorials in Italian Vogue, Teen Vogue, British Vogue, Dazed & Confused, German Vogue, Italian Flair, Numero, Italian Elle, Chinese Vogue and Spanish Vogue.

She is currently signed with Women Management in New York.

Photography

Strange is also a keen photographer, and attended courses at ICP in New York. She has had a joint show with Victor de Bie at the hose hospital Lomdon, and a solo show Projekt Galerie in Berlin, both in 2009. More recently, Strange has also had a collection of photographs published online in Aint-Bad Magazine in 2015.

Personal Style

Strange has a well-known eclectic personal style. When she was scouted in 2004 she sported red dreadlocks and a nose ring. She enjoys wearing bright clothes and attributes a large part of her style to the influence of Tokyo’s Harajuku girls.

Memorable Model Moment

Opening the Marc Jacobs show in 2006 Strange was having trouble with the shoes she was set to wear. Instead of risking a fall, she created a stir by taking off her shoes and carrying them down the runway.
