Heidi Rayder Bio

Heidi Rayder, also known as Francesca Frankie Rayder, was born on 26th January 1975 in River Falls, U.S.A. She is famous as an American Model, who has appeared four times at the end of year Victoria’s Secret fashion show and three times in the popular Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Her very first huge success (career-wise) came in 1992 when she came along the famed photographer Steven Meisel. Meisel immediately booked her for a photo shoot session that marked the first of many more to follow. Rayder attended high school at River Falls High school where she was a member of the basketball team. Prior to venturing into fashion modelling, she used to work at a golf clubhouse She started her career in fashion modelling with Caryn Modelling and Talent Agency located in Minneapolis. The agencies suggested the name Francesca to make her more appealing and exotic to the fashion gurus. Heidi made her France runway debut during the 1997 fall runways for designers such as Christian Lacroix, Chanel, and Dries Van Noten. Later in 1998, she was highly sought after in the industry and her prices went up to as high as $25,000 per client, with most firms hoping to pay her high enough to get her to terminate contracts with other enterprises. In 1999, Ryder was nominated as the new face of Givenchy and in the same year, Meisel photographed her for Versace and Dolce & Gabbana ad campaigns. Later in the fall of 2000, New York Times named her (together with her younger sister) as the famous Ryder sisters. In the same year, it named Ryder as the It girl and nominated her as the new face of Givenchy. During the 1999 Fashion Week held in NY, Rayder was booked for a total of 5 shows a day for major designers such as Badgley, Daryl K, Marc Jacobs, John Bartlett, and Tommy Hilfiger. By the start of 2000, Rayder was the most expensive model, and the most approached model in the industry. She was featured in the famous Victoria’s Secret Fashion show for a second time and later she was nominated for the 2000 VH1 Fashion Awards as the model of 2000 alongside Carmen Kass, Bundchen, Maggie Rizer and Angela Lindvall. Eventually, Kass emerged as the winner after the defending model, Bundchen, retracted her nomination to host the show. In 2003, Rayder was nominated as the face of Chanel. During the NY Fashion Week, she worked for high-end fashion designers and during the fortieth Anniversary of Swimsuit Issue, Stewart Shining took a photo of her. Together with Mellissa Keller and Cheryl Tiegs, Heidi Rayder is one of the models related to Minnesota, who have earned their place in the Swimsuit Issue. Rayder has also made appearances in 2003, 2003, 2000 and 1999 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, and she landed a Cameo role during the film “Zoolander”. In the first quarter of 2000, she was named as the sexiest woman in the world by GQ. Later in 2004, Rayder, alongside Patti Hansen, Linda Evangelista, and her daughters Twiggy, Theodora Richards and Alexandra, were featured in the then celebrated 50-model fiftieth Anniversary Taylor Ann ad campaign. She was also in the press a couple of times for an ad campaign run by Godiva Chocolatier. Later in 2005, she was featured in several ads, in which other models such as Anouck Lepere and Sophie Dahl appeared, where she posed lovingly with chocolate goodies for Valentine day in Elle, harper’s Bazaar and Vogue. The promotion was for chocolate brands that came with a lottery ticket and could award the buyer with up to 50 pairs of Manola Blahnik shoes, including a pair of hand custom-designed by Blahnik himself. The ad campaign gained a lot of traction in 2004. Following her massive achievements, Rayder toured Miami Beach, London, Milan and Paris working for numerous fashion firms including Page 305, women model management, Why Not, Storm, and Take-Two. Some of the companies she has worked for include Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, Chanel, Lagerfeld, Gap, DKNY, Marc Jacobs, Carolina Herrera, and Tommy Hilfiger. Rayder has featured on cover pages of magazines such as the Photo, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Allure, Marie Claire and more. She has worked with the fashion industry top designers such as Donna Karan, Williamson, Marc Jacobs, Carolina Herrera, Zac Posen, and Michael Kors. Ryders famous Magazine cover credit features April 1999 Vogue Paris, January 1999 Vogue Italia, November 2000 US Vogue, July 1999 British Vogue, and December 2000 Vogue Brazil Issue. She was also featured in the 40th anniversary (2004), and the 2005 issue of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit. Ryder also appeared in the Phoenix’s video titled Funky Squaredance. The film was directed by Roman Cappola her boyfriend of the time. Towards the end of 2002, she was mistakenly said to have been involved with Nicolas Cage. However, few months later after her affair with Presley Marie came to an end, she started dating Nicolas Cage Cousin, Coppola Roman. Her relationship with Roman was mostly chronicled; in the same year, Ryder came very close to marrying the 1st born son of Francis Coppola. Early in her career, Ryder and Missy (her sister) lived in opposite street. In fact, they were featured together in the in the May 2000 Harper’s Bazaar. After that, Rayder sister, together with their third sister, Molly, were featured in 2000 holiday advertisements by Gap to promote its campaign “Put a little Love in Your Heart”. In the subsequent years, Frankie and Missy featured in Gap’s holiday advertisement. In 2004, she started dating Michael Flea Balzary, a member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers Bass Players. Later in 2005, they both announced their engagement and on October 2005, Frankie gave birth to their firstborn child, Sunny Bebop Balzary.
